  • Stadium Sponsorship: Why not La Liga?

Interesting comments Jordi and Nick. I just feel that teams need to get creative to make more money, that's all. Especially if moving to new grounds. The big clubs don't really need it as much as the smaller ones.

Yes La Ley Beckham is really going to affect the big two giants and those with a majority of foreigners IE Atlético and Sevilla. It will be interesting.

Alessandro, your first American live game, eh? Yes we have built in commercial or TV breaks into our sports. Not my cup of tea. I prefer non stop, or very few breaks, like soccer/fútbol. None of this time outs, or quarters, or stopping the clock. *Sigh*

Gran articulo Pablo. Estoy total en acuerdo contigo. La respuesta es una distribución equitativa de los ingresos de televisión, pero los dos grandes están luchando contra los cambios drásticos.

I think a big part of the problem is that the stadia is owned by the municipalities and not the clubs. Hopefully that will change with Juve's new grounds, etc. It is truly an untapped market. Especially if you compare the attendance in the PL, Bundesliga, and even Spain.

But getting back to the TV experience, I know when I watch a game on HDTV, I want to feel, "hey I want to be there!" Not "Wow, look at that no one wants to come to the games." Just saying. :)

Totally agree Oscar. Funny how I had just published this article and then the fight over time of and past due wages emerged. Talk about topical. It really is frustrating the "La Confusion" experience of going to Spanish football matches.

Alessandro, global TV revenues is a definitely a must for both La Liga and Serie A. Especially for Italy, with the discouraging attendance at the games. I really wish they could focus more on improving attendance and the atmosphere at matches. Because it does not come across well on the HDTV.

I agree Oscar. From a financial perspective MLS has some things to take into consideration, like salary caps, squad limits, home grown limitations, the concept of parity, tv revenues, marketing and branding as a collective. All these things would help the Spanish game become more austere and competitive. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Rayde, I like the way you label the midfield "the intangible", that is so appropo. Statistics will just not work adequately in football.

Thanks for pointing out the MLB draft. Yes indeed they do have one, the combination of the farm, scouting and the draft is a unique process.

    Cheers

  • Shirt Sponsorship ~ How does Spain compare?

Hola Rayde, couldn't the LFP develop certain marketing or branding on a league wide level such as sponsorships, kit sales etc. For example in the NHL you can buy kits directly from the club or from the league. Another example in MLS is that Adidas sponsors all club kits. Maybe an overall sales approach like the NFL and NHL would help the LFP and La Liga clubs in certain cases. Just a thought.

@Javier, I think it is only time for Barca to change their policy like Athletic did a few years back.
